Giving back

Sometimes, giving up some of your time to help someone means more than any amount of money. The Vigilantes are happy to give our time to the Youth Fusion kids…even when they defeat us miserably during our basketball games. But hey, they have youth on their side, right?

Youth Fusion is a Montreal-based charity whose aim is to motivate youth to counter drop-out rates by matching high school students at risk of dropping out with university students. The idea is simple; show the kids someone cares about their future, and that without education, their future might be bleaker than it really should be.

The university students give up some of their time and mentor the kids at their school, starting after school programs or projects that open the kids’ eyes to things they might otherwise never know about. You can’t put a price tag on that.

Confoo a hit!

The first-ever edition of the Confoo Web Techno Conference in Montreal put the plethora of talent available in our community on display. The tech talent pool in this city is fantastic, incredibly bright and ready for a challenge.

Vigilant Futures was one of the event’s proud gold sponsors and participated in the jobfair from March 10 to 11. For two days, we had the honour of meeting and speaking with countless technologists from our very own city. And they had the chance to meet with some of the savviest and most dynamic companies around. The conference and jobfair attracted local developers and our first-hand encounters with these qualified technologists reinforced our belief Montreal is fertile ground for innovative ideas through research and development, and cutting-edge technology.

It was a remarkable and enlightening few days for us at Vigilant and we look forward to doing it again next year.

Marianne St. Gelais – What a way to cheer

Marianne St. Gelais’ unbridled, no-holds-barred cheering for her boyfriend Charles Hamelin’s 500m skate for Olympic Gold has to be one of the most heart-lifting moments from the Games.

She has set the bar for passion and support.

Thank you Zach Parise

Paul Henderson’s goal as Canada defeated Russia in the 1972 Summit Series is now deeply entrenched in Canadian lore. Foster Hewitt’s call on the frantic goal is etched into the memories of a generation of hockey fans, and almost everyone who was in Canada in 1972 can answer, “Where were you when Henderson scored?”

In due part to USA sniper Zach Parise, perhaps our current generation has its own “Henderson moment”… For it weren’t for Parise’s frantic tying goal with 9 seconds left, Sid would never have had the chance for our ‘golden goal’, as eloquently announced by CBC’s Chris Cuthbert. If it weren’t for Parise, we might never have had the chance to answer, “Where were you when Crosby scored?”…

So thank you again Zach Parise, we will forever be grateful to you…
